“TO GOD BE THE GLORY”
I’m over the moon to be selected as one of the ‘Journey of Hope Riders,’ and in so doing begin my journey……
At the age of 42, I was at the height of my career as a very successful top business woman. I travelled, both nationally and internationally, and was employed by the same company for 25 years.
My whole life changed within one minute when I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I was devastated. Soon afterwards I was divorced from my husband, and the next year of my life followed with operations, chemo and radiation.
Then, due to very ill health, the doctors decided to medically board me. This left me with numerous decisions to make regarding my future.
I decided to take a step of faith, and believe God’s promises he had for me. That was, for a better plan and purpose for my life. I believed that we were not meant to merely exist, but rather to make a difference.
I used this experience as a new beginning and season in my life.
Six years later, my one boobie (he-he) and I married a wonderful man. I continued busying myself with charity work and fundraising in the community.
In 2006 a very precious friend of mine entered me in a competition called ‘Mrs. United Nations South Africa.’ I was one of the top 5 runners up, and was presented with a ‘public speaking’ award.
Because of this award, I was appointed the ‘Cancer Ass’ motivational speaker at various events. I was blessed by them with an award called ‘Honourable Chair.’ This award was for supporting them in so many ways. By the Grace of God, I’m here today, to also bring my testimony of hope in churches around the country.
I’ve learnt to savour and enjoy every precious moment as if there is no tomorrow, and not to take life for granted. Although this experience brought many tears I learnt to laugh and see the funny side of things, especially when wearing a wig!
I want to take this opportunity to thank my family and friends for their love and support. A support system is vital during a time like this.
‘Journey of Hope’ is my dream come true. I would like to motivate, support, and encourage people around the country. I need to let them know that there is life after cancer.
Cancer for me was a journey to travel…………. I now want to enjoy the ride……………I believe there is no better way than on my sons Harley.
So watch out South Africa…….here we come…….with a loud encouraging noise.
