I have metastasis breast cancer to the bones for the past 11 years and still alive and kicking!
For the past 11 years, I’ve done my best not to let cancer control my life. After finding out that the cancer had spread to my bones, I needed to do something to feel alive so I bought a beautiful Harley-Davidson Softail Heritage. It is definitely the best thing I’ve ever done! I thought that if I could only ride 2000kms that summer, it would make me happy. Well, I managed to put on over 56,000kms in two seasons! I do most of my appointments, radiation and chemotherapy treatments on my bike. I have yet to meet another cancer patient wearing a leather jacket and chaps in the hospital! Riding my Harley is the best thing to do after treatment.
What is it about riding that brings so much peace to my soul? When I leave the city behind and get on the back roads, I forget about tomorrow and live for the moment. I get lost in the sunsets on the Ottawa River or in the fall leaves of Gatineau Park. Riding reminds me that the world is still a beautiful place. Even with cancer
