Aileen Taylo - Rider & Director.
5 year survivor.
Diagnosed: 2005. Age: 42.
It is both an honour and a privilege to be a co-Founder and to be part of the Steercom organising the Journey of Hope Breast Cancer Bike Ride 2008. Why do I want to be part of such a worthy and valuable cause? It’s quite simple: to reach out to not only women, but men in all walks of life. It is very important to detect breast cancer early. This could literally save your life! It is a wonderful opportunity to combine this fabulous cause with my passion to ride motorcycles. I believe that this bike ride is a novel and inspiring way to deliver a powerful message of hope and curability.
Being a survivor myself, these issues are very close to my heart. The impact this has made on my existence is extensive – it has brought fresh and new realizations and insights to the very essence of my life!
I was diagnosed in September 2005 at the age of 38, had surgery (lumpectomy) in the following month and began chemotherapy at the end of the year. At the beginning of 2006, I had six months of chemotherapy and then underwent seven weeks of radiation treatment. After that, I commenced estrogen suppression drug treatment on which I will be on for five years.
