Hitting the road! - 17 October 2009
The big day has finally arrived for 15 brave breast cancer survivors from all walks of life who departed on Saturday on their Journey of Hope, the breast cancer ride up the West Coast to Johannesburg on a seven day adventure. On the back of their Harley Davidson motorcycles, the ladies will visit various communities along the West Coast to educate and create hope on early detection around breast cancer. Proceedings start on Saturday at the Cape Town V&A Waterfront at 1015hrs with departure scheduled for 1105. "Following us out will be the local Cape Town Harley supporters revving their support for this journey of volunteers," said spokesperson Mishka Moller. "Imagine the impact these survivors make as they ride into towns on our gorgeous chromed Harley-Davidson Motorcycles - showing all that ‘life is for living! Our riders include well known celebrities; Janie Du Plessis and ‘Mama'' Lilian Dube who are living proof that there is ‘life after breast cancer''," Moller said. All 15 volunteers will share personal testimonies and deliver important messages about early detection, diagnosis, treatment and survival. Information leaflets will be distributed so that this information can be shared with all women en route.
